Judy has taught at St. Patrick for the past 16 years and has been teaching for 19 years, all of which she has taught 3-year-olds.
She attended college at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, NY and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, major: Interior Design, minor: Sociology; Child Development Associates, fulfilling 12 hours Early Childhood Development. She is currently participating in the Children’s Learning Institute Texas School Ready! Project, which is an early education approach that serves preschool-aged children through shared resources between public and private early childhood education programs. Anticipated completion of this program by Spring 2014 to receive a Texas School Ready License.
Judy lives in Lufkin with her husband Truitt McKinney and has one son, Corey McKinney, 21. She loves Italian food, gardening, reading, jewelry-making and animals.
In 1998, when she first came to St. Patrick, she started the first 3K program, After Care and Summer Programs the school has had ever since.
Her favorite memory from St. Patrick is watching two of her first students graduate from 8th grade: Victor Ramos and Peyton Thompson (both attended Pre-K3 thru 8th grade at St. Patrick).
“Ms. Lou” is in her 7th year at St. Patrick. She has over 20 years’ experience as a Catholic educator, most of which was in her native Puerto Rico. Along with teaching Kindergarten, Ms. Lou serves as Aftercare Coordinator and is our artist-in-residence! She believes in individualized education and any student at this school is automatically one of “her kids.”
1st Grade, Jasmine Flores
Ms. Jasmine is in her second year at St. Patrick and came to us with several years in public school early childhood education. She has enjoyed the move to working with slightly older students and focuses on hands-on learning and integrating technology into her curriculum.
2nd / 3rd Grade, Pat Powell
Pat Powell graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BA in English and a minor in music with an education certification. She has completed some additional graduate work at Stephen F. Austin State University and Sam Houston University. Her specialties are math and reading.
She has 43 years of teaching experience in El Paso, San Antonio and Lufkin. She taught for 18 years at Hudson ISD and 19 years at Leggett ISD. She retired from public school teaching in May 2012. In January 2013 she joined the Foster Grandparent program which provides volunteers in schools including St. Patrick. She volunteered at St. Patrick from January to May 2013. During the June and July of 2013, she taught a 6 week course with Ms. Smiley at the school for 2nd to 4th graders. She accepted the 3rd grade teaching position in August 2013 for St. Patrick.
She is an advocate for teachers an students and has been very active in both the local and state levels of the education system.
She has been very active in St. Patrick Catholic Church. She has been a choir director for over 35 years. She was born in Plainview, Texas but was raised in El Paso. She is an only child.
4th Grade, Vivian Plemons
Vivian Plemons' love for children led her to become a teacher. She has been a teacher for 13 years and with St. Patrick for 12 years.
She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a Bachelors in EC-4. She has her Early Childhood Associate Degree from Angelina College. She is participating in the Children’s Learning Institute Texas School Ready Project.
She lives in Huntington. She has five children: Stephen Hudson 22, Joshua Foyil 18, Lexie Foyil 16, Thomas Foyil 13 and Olivia Foyil 11.
She is one of 12 children.
She enjoys it when she can see the “Light Come On” for a student who is finally getting it. That is a great feeling!
5th Grade, Jamie Sanchez
Mrs. Jamie is in her second year as a full-time teacher at St. Patrick but has been at St. Patrick for over 5 years in various capacities. She is a “Boy Mom” with four grown sons. In her previous life, she spent over 20 years working in Early Education. The move to upper elementary has allowed her to stretch teaching skills.
6th-8th Grade, Lauren Brazil
Mrs. Lauren is in her second year at St. Patrick. She graduated from SFA with a degree in Health Science and after a brief time out of the workforce to raise her daughters, she joined St. Patrick as our Middle School teacher and Athletics Coordinator.
Regina Shupak, PE/Kumon Coordinator
Regina Davis Shupak has known since the 2nd grade that she wanted to be a teacher. She grew up in a family of educators. Her father coached, taught, and was a school administrator for 44 years and her grandfather coached, taught, and was a superintendent for over 40 years. She loves working with children and has been a teacher for over 23 years and with St. Patrick for over 11 years.
Regina attended Texas A&M University in College Station where she received her Bachelor of Science in Curriculum & Instruction and is Certified in Elementary Education, Physical Education and Reading.
She lives in Lufkin with her husband, Mark Shupak, Temple-Inland / International Paper. She has two sons Clay Shupak, 17 and Sam Shupak, 21.
Regina can juggle tennis balls.
Some of her favorite memories: The joys of watching both my sons attend St. Patrick Catholic School. Watching my 2011 Kindergarten class accept their diplomas. All the “Shupak Sharks” at Field Day every year.
Martha López Coleman, Principal
Martha López Coleman is a proud St. Patrick School alumna. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1997. She attended Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia and received her Bachelor of Art in History in 2001. She taught history in Lufkin Independent School District (TX) and Danville City Public Schools (VA). She entered the University of North Carolina in Greensboro to pursue her Master of Library and Information Studies, which was conferred in 2007. She also holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University (Danville, VA), which was conferred in 2009. She served as Media Specialist/Librarian in Guilford County Schools (NC) and Martinsville City Public Schools (VA) until returning to Texas in 2010 to serve as Assistant Library Director for the City of Lufkin. After leaving the realm of public library, she was accepted into the 2013 Doctoral Cohort at Stephen F. Austin State University, where she is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership.
Odelia Torres, Cafeteria
Mrs. Odie has been with St. Patrick for several years in many different capacities. Currently she serves up delicious lunches and kind words.
